Arsenal become first Premier League club to reach five million Twitter followers

Arsenal has become the first Premier League side to reach five million followers on Twitter.

The milestone was reached on Monday as the Gunners trumped Chelsea - who boast around 4,800,000 followers - to the figure.

Arsenal, though, remain some way off frontrunners Real Madrid and Barcelona, who can count just under 14,000,000 fans each on the social networking website.

Galatasaray makes up the top five most popular football clubs on Twitter, while Manchester United, in sixth, and Liverpool, in eighth, claim a place in the top 10.
